Ground ginger product recalled for salmonella concerns

Written By Unknown on Minggu, 14 Oktober 2012 | 22.45

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency is warning people not to consume "Clef Des Champs" organic ground ginger over concerns the product may be contaminated with salmonella.

The 35-gram and 500-gram packages are affected.

These products have been distributed nationally.

Food contaminated with salmonella may not smell or look spoiled, the CFIA said in a release, but can cause serious and sometimes deadly infections in young children, the elderly and those with weakened immune systems.

For healthy people, eating salmonella-contaminated foods can cause short-term symptoms including high fever, severe headache, vomiting, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. It can also cause long-term complications, including severe arthritis.

On the same day, CFIA also issued a salmonella warning about Xan Confections brand Peanut Butter Chocolate products.

A complete list of the products in both recalls can be found on the CFIA website.
