Cheese products recalled over Listeria risk

A health alert has been issued for certain Ballarini brand Gorgonzola cheese products due to possible Listeria contamination.

Ballarini's Gorgonzola D.O.P. Cremaverde and Dolce D.O.P cheeses have been pulled from stores.

The cheeses were distributed nationally in varying weights, and with at least three best before dates.

Consumers are advised to contact their retailer to determine if they have the affected products.

Listeria contaminated food can pose a serious health threat, however, no illnesses associated with the cheeses have been reported.

The importer, Jan K Overweel Ltd., Woodbridge, Ont., has recalled the affected products and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency is monitoring the recall.
