Diagnosed sociopath shares secret world

Sociopaths are among us, hiding in plain sight -- but despite what the movies would have us believe, they are not necessarily evil or interested in criminal behaviour. This is what M.E. Thomas -- a successful lawyer, a devout Mormon, and a diagnosed sociopath -- would like others to understand.

Under the protection of a pen name, she has written Confessions of a Sociopath to shine light on a dimly understood condition. Thomas tells guest host Terry O'Reilly about how she navigates her career, her faith, and her personal relationships while largely masking her disorder.

"When I have emotions I don't really give them context and meaning the way most people do," she said, adding she's aware she's projecting a personality and that people are reacting to it, but that she doesn't really identify with it.

Thomas describes the moment she knew she was different, how she tries to identify other sociopaths, and why she decided to stop "ruining people" without their consent.

"It's actually not that hard to find people who want to be messed with."

What comes to mind when you think of sociopaths? Do you think they are misunderstood? What's your reaction to Thomas' story?
