Ibuprofen painkillers recalled over labelling error

Health Canada has issued an advisory stating that hundreds of Safeway Ibuprofen Liquid Capsules (200 mg capsules, 72 in a bottle) and Compliments Ibuprofen Liquid Capsules (200 mg, 72 capsules in a bottle) are being recalled due to a labelling error.

Currently, the bottles affected incorrectly state that they are packaged with a child-resistant cap. The products could pose a risk to children who could open the bottle and ingest the bottle's contents.

The risk of ingestion by children can result in ibuprofen overdose and serious health consequences including seizures, kidney failure, heart problems and coma, Health Canada's advisory warns.

Early signs of overdose include nausea, vomiting, lethargy and abdominal pain.

Consumers who currently have the medication are advised to keep it out of reach of children and return the affected bottles to where they bought them.
